Lord Attenborough on Breakfast
Free Sport For All, funded thanks to the money raised by ICAP last year, aims to give children and teenagers the opportunity to take part in sport, especially young disabled people and those from less advantaged backgrounds.
The programme is being delivered in partnership with London sports bodies who have both the knowledge and expertise to identify local needs and the projects to run the activities.
The first projects are focusing on providing regular sport sessions for young disabled people, through the London Sports Forum for Disabled People and the 5 Pro-Actives London Partnerships.
Over 20 Projects are being funded
These include:
• Bromley Mytime’s ‘Family splash’ swimming sessions for children with disabilities and their siblings and parents in Bromley and Beckenham.
• Spurs and England star Jermaine Jenas is supporting Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s All 2-Gether Now project which is giving training to school and college staff to enable the inclusion of disabled children and young people into a variety of sports activities in North London.
Later this year, there’ll be a range of activities for less advantaged young people including:
• Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme will be giving young people from East London aged 14-18 places on sports training and leadership courses.
• The London Coaching Foundation will be running 4 Urban Athlete – ‘Have a go at Athletics & Sports’ Day events where young people will try track and field events and be coached by current and former athletes, including some Olympians.
